Benedict Morris with Pablo Lafuente & Conal McDonagh

A rising star of traditional music, Glasgow’s Benedict Morris is the BBC Radio Scotland Traditional Musician of the Year 2019.

Lauded as “magnificent” by The Scotsman and praised for his virtuosity by Irish Music Magazine, the twenty-one year-old fiddle player has toured throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe and South America with a number of outfits. His duo with Belfast guitarist, Cormac Crummey, enjoyed sell out dates on the launch tour of their debut album, Wavelength, in autumn 2018, whilst Benedict is also a fiddle player alongside the five time world champion Irish dancer, David Geaney.

Recent touring highlights have included Dublin’s 3 Arena, whilst in August 2018 Benedict appeared with Ímar at Denmark’s world-renowned Tønder Festival. He has also recently started a very popular video series on his social media channels, Backers, in which her interviews and performs with a different accompanist in each episode, focusing on their styles and influences.

Benedict visits Orkney with guitarist Pablo Lafuente (Josie Duncan and Pablo Lafuente, Project Smok, Anxo Lorenzo) and piper and whistle player Conal McDonagh (Paul McKenna Band, Inyal).
