Orkney Strathspey and Reel Society

The Orkney Strathspey and Reel Society was founded 68 years ago, in 1948, with an impressive membership of 28 accordion, guitar and fiddle players, originally led by George Stewart.

The society is highly regarded locally, as one of the county’s most respected and established musical groups, having performed across the county numerous times, and releasing a number of recordings – most recently, Itchy Fingers, in 2012.

Members of the society have previously included many “weel kent” Orcadian musicians, such as Pat Shearer, Ronnie Aim, Hugh Inkster, Davy Eunson and Tommy Mainland, whilst it has also been praised for “bringing on” many new, younger players, including Jennifer and Hazel Wrigley, Erika Shearer and Eric Linklater.
