Freddie Pretorious

Freddie is a singer-songwriter and multi instrumentalist living and working in Kirkwall. Having first picked up the fiddle at the age of just six, and with his roots firmly established in Scottish traditional music, he currently focuses on contemporary acoustic songs, mostly self accompanied on the guitar or piano. His repertoire comprises a range of self-penned songs along with cover versions by the likes of Ed Sheeran,, Alt-J, Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

Freddie started playing the fiddle  in Edinburgh with Mairi Campbell and then with Sarah Hoy. He attended the Fèis Dhun Eiddeann school holiday programmes in Edinburgh and expanded his repertoire from fiddle to include Gaelic song, whistle and accordion. He went on to study piano, guitar and fiddle with the Wrigley Sisters at the Reel from the age of 11, whilst he also studied piano with Gemma McGregor and fiddle with Douglas Montgomery when attending KGS. Freddie attended several OTMP summer schools and fiddle groups and was a member of the Orkney Strathspey & Reel Society Juniors as well as Hadhirgaan. He performed at the Scots Fiddle Festival in Edinburgh on a number of occasions.

Freddie has focussed on songwriting and performance over the past few years and has performed at a range of venues including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; The Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh; The Linkylea Music Festival, East Lothian and The Reel Summer Concerts, Kirkwall.
