Wrigley and the Reel
Wrigley and the Reel is a four-to-six-piece band where Jennifer and Hazel Wrigley are joined by The Reel – an outstanding collection of Orcadian musicians who combine boundless musical dexterity and vitality with Orcadian wit and good fun.
Twin sisters Jennifer and Hazel are an internationally renowned, worldwide acclaimed Orcadian fiddle and guitar duo, with a fan base stretching throughout Europe, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Far East. Born, raised and now re-settled in Orkney, they started performing together – Jennifer on fiddle, and Hazel on guitar and piano – when they were just eight years old. Their enduring universal appeal reflects both the calibre of their music – a sparkling blend of traditional, contemporary and original material, invigorated with jazz, blues and ragtime flavours – and the effervescent charm of their performances.
Now with seven albums and a twenty-year-plus touring career under their belt, Jennifer and Hazel also run the “The Reel” in Kirkwall; the music centre which sits alongside St. Magnus Cathedral. Predominantly a multi-instrumental school, it also encompasses a café/bar, music shop, concert venue and exhibition space.
Jennifer and Hazel will appear at the festival alongside two long-time musical comrades; guitarist Stewart Shearer, and Ian Mackay on double bass.
